Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) On arrival of bulk pack Mealworms, shake them from their bag into a plastic container with slick side walls (kitty litter tray, dish pan, plastic aquarium, etc.). The container should have a bedding of chicken food, corn meal, or dry oatmeal. Place the container with worms and bedding in a refrigerator at 43-50 degrees F. At this temperature the Mealworms become dormant and last for months. It is better to have a fresh stock and not order more than a two weeks supply at a time. It is essential for mealworms to have moisture which is obtained through pieces of raw carrots or potatoes. Mealworms are approximately 1" long and 1/8" in diameter.
